We, the undersigned, respectfully urge you to organize a ticker-tape parade in New York City to honor the historic election of the first-ever American Pope.
This momentous occasion is a milestone for American Catholics, a cause for national pride, and a testament to the enduring importance of faith, community, and service in American life. The selection of an American to lead the world’s 1.3 billion Catholics is an event of international significance — and one that deserves recognition in the greatest city in the world.
New York has always been a city that celebrates history, from astronauts to championship teams to heads of state. A papal ticker-tape parade would not only recognize this once-in-a-lifetime achievement but also unite New Yorkers of all backgrounds in celebration of a shared cultural and spiritual landmark.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the canonization of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American-born saint. The symbolism is profound and the timing could not be more appropriate.
We respectfully ask that you take swift action to plan and announce this parade in the spirit of celebration, faith, and unity.
